Metallography Analysis
Metallographic analysis is the process of examining metals at the microscopic level using specialized equipment and techniques to better understand their structure and properties. Each metal has a distinct and complex physical composition, and its response to various stimuli is influenced by its microstructure. For instance, metals such as copper, silver, and aluminum exhibit excellent electrical conductivity, whereas bismuth conducts electricity very poorly under normal temperature conditions.
How It Works
- Document the initial condition of the specimen
- Section and cut the specimen
- Mount the specimen
- Grind and polish the specimen
- Etch the specimen
- Analyze the specimen using microscopy
