Cross-section Preparation
A method for examining the internal structure of a material by cutting a cross-section
through it.
How It Works
- Select a representative area of the material
- Remove any protective layers
- Mount the sample in a stable material like epoxy or resin
- Cut or slice the sample
- Grind, polish or mill the cross-section until it’s smooth and flat
- Analyze the cross-section using microscopy or spectroscopy
